Putnam County Clean Commission Has New Director

Preserve the beauty of Tennessee. That is the goal of the Putnam County Clean Commission’s new Director.

Teresa Jackson said she thought she knew a lot about pollution and sustainability prior to taking on the job. Jackson said as she educates herself she is preparing new programs for the community.

“I didn’t really understand until taking this position and started taking some classes,” Jackson said. “Learning about recycling and how much damage plastics and stuff do to our environment. So I’m educating myself, educating others, making the pick-up of trash kind of fun.”

Jackson said the commission’s role is to make sure that anybody who wants to help beautify the community or learn about recycling is educated, organized, and supplied.

Jackson said the commission encourages groups and organizations to adopt a road or vicinity for regular trash removal.

“We provide grab-its, industrial gloves, trash bags, everything that they would need to help eliminate trash in the vicinity that they are wanting to clean up,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the commission will provide recycle bins at the Red, White and Boom event at the fairgrounds on July 4th.

“We encourage people to use the proper receptacle for their trash,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the commission does Putnam Proud in September to encourage the community to become involved in beautification.

Jackson said until you get involved you don’t really realize how much is involved in keeping Putnam clean, green, and beautiful.
