Putnam County Candidates Participate in Meet-and-Greets

Putnam County Candidates attended multiple events Tuesday in an effort to garner more votes prior to the August 2 election.

George Halford is the President and CEO of the Cookeville Chamber of Commerce, which hosted two of the day’s events. He said he was impressed not only by the turnout of the candidates, but by the general public as well.

“We gave the opportunity to the general public as well as our membership to meet the candidates and learn first-hand about their platforms,” Halford said.

A third event was hosted at DelMonaco Winery in Baxter, with topics focused more on state legislators rather than county positions. Owner Barbara DelMonaco said their event was a success, hosting approximately 40 candidates and 75 potential voters. She added candidates were thankful for the opportunity to meet with the general public and that the event may occur again in the future.

Halford said the Chamber is fortunate to be able to have such open candidates to have them all come together for a single event.

“We’re very fortunate to have the environment and the trust in our community that we can do this,” Halford said. “We’re going to do more of it. This is just a really good start.”

News Talk 94.1 will air the Chamber of Commerce Forum Thursday with coverage beginning at 6 p.m.
