The Putnam County Schools could be adding school resource officers to the county’s elementary schools.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said he and Superintendent Dr. Jerry Boyd talked about the move in the wake of the recent school shootings discussion.
“There are some schools out here standing alone that maybe we’re going to look at trying to ask for the commission to help us,” Farris said.
Putnam County currently employs school resource officers in all middle and high schools. Farris said SROs often visit the few elementary schools co-located with middle schools, such as Prescott and Algood.
“Some of those can be maybe dual-role participants,” Farris said.
Farris said the addition of elementary school SROs will be explored as the county prepares its new fiscal-year budgets.
“Budget time comes up in July so we will be getting those budget numbers ready to try to address those at that time,” Farris said.
