Putnam County’s 175th anniversary celebration will end this weekend.
Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said the official celebration began back in February and it’ll all end with a ceremony on July 4.
The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at the courthouse, immediately following the children’s parade.
The ceremony will include recognition of the five oldest veterans in Putnam County, Porter said.
“We’re going to do some special recognition for them because we wouldn’t be here today, we wouldn’t be celebrating 175 years if they hadn’t fought for our freedom and so we could have the independence and freedom we have today, it’s going to be a special celebration we hope everyone comes out to join us,” Porter said.
Part of the celebration has been sharing old photographs. Porter and Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton have been sharing the photographs on Facebook for months.
Porter said more photographs have been found in recent weeks.
“We’re probably going to extend the photos a little while and maybe finish up towards the end of July, cause we’ve got so many more to post but as far as event ways, our finale will be the ceremony we have at the courthouse on the fourth of July,” Porter said.
