The city of Cookeville and Putnam County have proclaimed Tuesday, September 28th as, “Sprinkle Kindness Day.”
County Mayor Randy Porter said the decree honors the life of 17-year-old Leigh Anne Eldridge. A life taken too soon by a car accident in 2019.
“There was some of her friends and family that wanted to do something to honor her memory, and she was such a positive person and always working with children and trying to do good things for people,” Porter said. “So, we came up with the idea Sprinkle Kindness Day.”
Porter said one can honor the Cookeville native’s life by doing an act of kindness for someone on this day. Porter said the county and city celebrated the proclamation at the county courthouse Monday with the Eldridge family.
“I can’t imagine what her parents have went though losing her at 17,” Porter said. “So, we did the proclamation and framed it up and had them come to the courthouse and gave it to them. They were just blown away about what was happening.”
Porter said while driving around town Tuesday, one can see billboards honoring her life.
“She was a very generous lady,” Porter said. “Organ donor so they were talking about how she impacted lots of lives that were able to live, because of the organ donation. Worked with all the kids in her church, and she founded a kids matter program on her own. Just always trying to do something for someone else, and she wanted to be a special education teacher.”
Porter said the more kindness we can do, the better. Porter said the last 18 months have been a challenging time, so take the time Tuesday to complete an act of kindness.
