A project to improve a dangerous southwest Cookeville intersection is now one step closer to happening.
The Putnam County Planning Committee has granted County Executive Randy Porter the authority to sign an agreement with TDOT to proceed with the project at Burgess Falls Road and West Cemetery Road.
“I think everyone understands what a traffic problem it is down there and what a good solution this is going to be to help alleviate that,” Porter said. “There was a unanimous vote to pass this on to the full commission.”
Porter said plans include adding a turning lane on Burgess Falls Road to allow a left turn onto West Cemetery. TDOT is also planning to add a turning lane on West Cemetery in order for drivers to be able to turn left and right from that road.
The work is not expected to begin until at least next year.
