Putnam County residents can expect mail from their local rescue squad asking for donations for this year’s fundraiser.
The funds are used to purchase upgraded equipment and train volunteers. Public Information Officer Mike Herrick said this year’s target is $100,000.
“Being volunteer, we do not have any payroll,” Herrick said. “The items to outfit those individuals for the specialized teams, such as the dive team and the swift water teams can cause two to three thousand dollars per individual.”
Herrick said the rescue squad understands that donations may be scarce this year due to the pandemic. Herrick said the county will give some supplement this year to help with needed capitol purchases.
“We will look at each individual team, what their immediate needs are and what the available funds are,” Herrick said. “And just see what the best use is for those funds.”
The Putnam County Rescue Squad is a 501-C3 Non-Profit Organization that operates with around 65 members that are 100 percent volunteer. Herrick said the envelopes went out Saturday and include a brochure about the rescue squad and needed mailing materials.
