Putnam County has received a $44,191 state grant for recycling purposes.
County Executive Randy Porter said the funding will help continue a composting project with the school system.
The funding will purchase roll-off containers and a skid steer loader.
“We’re in the process of doing a food waste project where we will take the school’s food waste and convert it into a type of fertilizer that is marketable to be sold,” Porter said. “That keeps that food waste out of the landfill, which hopefully will save the county quit a bit of money.”
In addition, the county also received a $49,050 recycling grant to expand the collection of used oil and anti-freeze at all of the county’s waste collection sites.
