The Putnam County Commission will have a work session to discuss two bond issues.
The topics on the docket for discussion are the expanded jail, and a potential new school.
Chair Mike Atwood called the meeting for Monday, July 19th, because he said he wants to address any questions commissioners have before they make decisions with the bond issues.
“Anytime you’re looking at borrowing the amount of money we’re going to be borrowing for those two projects, certainly it needs scrutiny,” Atwood said.
Atwood said Director of Schools Corby King and Sheriff Eddie Farris will create presentations for the work session, and the discussion will follow.
Atwood said it’s important to ensure that all commissioners understand the projects, what they plan on doing, what the money will buy, and what the long-range plan is.
He said he thinks most discussion will center around details of the new Putnam County School.
“We’ve talked about the school but not specifics,” Atwood said. “Particularly the size it’s going to be. We knew where it was going to be, we knew the location. But there was discussion of K through 4, there was discussion from K to 8, you know just what size this school was going to be. The total cost for what the facilities would be, how long this would extend life of our school system before we would do this again. Just a lot of those types of questions I think are pertinent.”
Atwood said that most details about the jail have been ironed out, and that they already plan to discuss the budget at the following meeting.
