Christmas may be months away but officials are already planning for annual parades.
County Executive Randy Porter said the county’s four holiday parades will top off the year’s celebrations.
“This would actually be our finale of our year-long celebration of Putnam County’s 175th anniversary, we want to end it in a bang and we thought what better way than to try to make the Christmas parade this year the very best we possibly could,” Porter said.
Each city will still have its own parade, but they’ll all have the same theme.
“We’re coming together as a team this year, Algood, Monterey and Baxter have all agreed that, though the parades will be on different nights, we’ll all use the 175th anniversary as a theme, we’re just looking for 4 special nights of parades that will honor Putnam County’s history,” Porter said.
Porter will serve as chairman of the Cookeville parade. It’s set for December 9. Floats will be allowed to toss candy to the crowds again this year, he said. There’s $2,500 in prize money to be divided between 7 different categories. Entry forms need to be turned in by mid-November, Porter said.
