Putnam Children’s Patriotic Parade Returns Thursday

The Putnam County Courthouse will play host to plenty of red, white and blue, bicycles, wagons and dogs Thursday for the 10th annual Children’s Patriotic Parade.

Putnam County Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Wilkerson organizes the parade. Wilkerson said the parade is one of her favorite events she gets to participate in every year.

“There’s just something really really special about that,” Wilkerson said. “Being able to see that look on a child’s face when they are able to participate in something that maybe they don’t quite understand all the way just yet of how important that is but it’s building a foundation.”

The parade will begin Thursday at 10:00am. Parents can pre-register at the Clerk’s Office or on the day of the parade. Wilkerson said the parade idea started years ago when the Daughters of The American Revolution reached out to help with the parade.

“They approached me back years ago and asked if I would assist in that process,” Wilkerson said. “And I was excited to get to be a part of that, and so its just sort of has grown over the last ten years into something bigger and bigger and we are having more families each year come out and participate.”

Wilkerson said the parade is an opportunity for families to celebrate Independence Day.

“I think it’s important for everyone to come out and be able to celebrate and show their Independence,” Wilkerson said. “To come out and be a part of something and be in this community.”
