It’s getting harder to find eclipse glasses in the Upper Cumberland.
The White County Public Library gave away 3,000 glasses to members in less than two days.
The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce has sold out.
Chamber Vice President of Visitor Development Zach Ledbetter said the group some of the glasses it ordered will be given away to visitors. Nearly 4,000 were sold at the chamber office.
“There was such a high demand of glasses in the community that we should open up and sell the other half to the community and like I say, as of Tuesday morning, we’ve sold out completely,” Ledbetter said.
Neither location will be ordering more glasses.
“We are probably not going to get any more, the company that we used, a Tennessee-based company, we’ve spoke with them and they’re having more demand than what they can possibly print right now and just have no chance of getting any out for anyone who wants to buy any in the bulk format right now,” Ledbetter said.
School children will still receive eclipse glasses. TTU’s STEM center is raising money to make sure every child in the Upper Cumberland receives glasses. Those counties that have cancelled school that day, like Putnam County, will give the glasses out the week before.
