Putnam Building Permits Beat August ’22 Numbers Despite Inflation

After two down months, Putnam County building permits again surpassed 2022 numbers in August.

Excluding the four municipalities, the county issued a total of 38 permits in August, tallying some $7.6 million in construction money. A total of 19 of the 38 permits were for single-family homes.

That’s up some $900,000 from 2022 numbers. The average price of the new homes permitted jumped some $49,000 from a year ago to $318,700.

Inflation has impacted what remains a strong market. Putnam County would need to average better than 26 permits per month the rest of the year to beat last year’s record of 407 permits. Permits were down over last year in both June and July. That means total permits have been down in five months so far in 2023 compared to a year ago.

For the year, more than $56 million in building permits have been issued in Putnam County, according to data provided by County Mayor Randy Porter.
