The Putnam County Budget Committee has been formed.
Mayor Randy Porter appointed nine commissioners Tuesday that include: Kim Bradford, Chris Cassetty, Chevin Eldridge, Dale Moss, Kathy Reel, Ben Rodgers, Sam Sandlin, Jonathan Williams and Darren Wilson.
“There’s always a lot more people that want to be on the budget committee than there are spaces,” Porter said. “I have to choose nine members. I don’t like taking anybody out. Nothing personal on any of it. I tried to switch some around.”
Porter said he encouraged all commissioners to still participate in the budget work sessions. Porter said their voices can still be heard and be a part of the discussions.
The nine member committee will start their work in March through a kickoff work session. Commissioner Chair Ben Rodgers said himself as well as Porter will spend about an hour explaining how the county is funded.
Jail staffing, school capacity, department requests and the property tax rate will be issues the committee considers until the budget goes to the full commission in July.
