Putnam County Commissioners will consider eliminating term limits for budget committee members when they meet this month.
Commissioner Jonathan Williams said the rule would allow some members to stay on the committee.
“The thought behind that was because it’s good to have the continuity there,” Williams said “it doesn’t mean that changes won’t be made, but it does mean that if you’ve got someone who’s done a good job for two years that they don’t necessarily have to come off.”
The County Commission appointed nine members to serve on the 2019-2020 budget committee during January’s meeting.
Those members include Cindy Adams, Mike Atwood, Grover Bennett Jr., Chris Cassetty, Jim Martin, Ben Rodger, Theresa Tayes, Jonathan Williams and Darren Wilson.
Mayor Randy Porter recommended the appointments. He said he tried to mix it up with new faces and those who previously served on the committee.
“As always, there’s always more people wanting to serve on the budget committee than what we have positions for,” Porter said. “Everyone that asked to be on it, I think, would have made a great budget committee members, but I can only choose nine.”
Committee members will begin holding meetings in the coming weeks to discuss the upcoming budget.
