Putnam BOE Prepared To Cut To Balance Budget

The Putnam County Board of Education will hold a special called meeting to approve a budget after the county’s budget committee determines what they have to work with.

The BOE approved the third draft of its budget during Thursday’s meeting.

The Putnam County Commission has approved all other budgets, only the BOE budget remains.

Putnam County Director of Schools Jerry Boyd.

“We’re always encouraged, it never seems to work out the way we want or any of the department heads to be honest, I will say the interaction is typically very positive, all of us understand that we want to do the best we can with the resources we have, we want to be mindful of the cost to the taxpayer,” Boyd said.

The budget still has a $3.89 million gap and includes a 4% raise for staff. Boyd’s staff and the board are preparing to make “difficult decisions” to balance the budget.
