The Putnam County Board of Education denied a family’s request to change schools.
An unidentified family lived in the Prescott South attendance zone last year, but moved to a different zone. Two older children will continue to be students at the elementary and middle school. The family asked the board to allow a younger child to begin kindergarten at Prescott South Elementary with the older siblings.
The Prescott South zone has restricted enrollment, meaning only kids that are already students, or kids that live in the attendance zone, will be admitted to the schools.
Attendance Supervisor Corby King told the board one child wouldn’t make that much difference at Prescott South Elementary.
“If you move out of the zone, this can happen,” board President Kim Cravens said.
“We need to get the word out to buy or move carefully because it’s getting to the point we won’t be able to allow the change,” board member Dawn Fry said.
Fry was the only vote in favor of allowing the transfer.
This is the second time in the last few months the board has denied a similar request.
