Putnam BOE Allowing More Competition For Mowing Bids

The process of bidding out mowing contracts for Putnam County schools is changing.

The Putnam County School Board has voted to change the way it bids out mowing contracts for county schools.

Under the change bid specifications for future lawn care services will allow multiple providers to competitively bid for regional clusters of school properties.

Board member Celeste Gammon said she liked the advantage of making the bid process more competitive.

“I think each community takes a lot of pride in their schools, so if we had somebody, maybe in Monterey, that gave a good bid, then they would take more pride in the property,” Gammon said. “Same thing for Baxter and Cookeville.”

Previously the board had a five year contract for mowing services with Turf Master Landscape Management. Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said the cost for mowing this year was $181,300.
