The Putnam Board of Education voted to pay the final construction and architect fees for the Park View School building Thursday.
Upland Design Group Architect Kim Chamberlin said the building is not totally finished, but the project should be completely done within the next two months. Chamberlin said the construction company will sow grass seed on the property in late September or early October and will take care of the land in the meantime.
“There’s still things they have to maintain for the, with the SWPPP that we have to do for TDEC,” Chamberlin said. “So they’re still required to keep that washing from occurring, so that’s part of the process they have to go through. TDEC will not release them from the SWPPP until everything is stabilized, so seeding and all that’s part of that stabilization.”
The board approved four invoices totaling some $950,000. Chamberlin said the year-long warranty on the building is already in progress.
“There are some other extended warranties on some things that are obviously, roof’s a longer warranty, you’ve got warranties on mechanical units that are longer, but yes, it starts as the date of the issuance of that (substantial completion certificate),” Chamberlin said.
Chamberlin said they will conduct a year-end walk before the warranty expires to make sure the building is properly maintained.
“Anything that pops up, we’ll be in touch with American (Constructors), American’s still got that responsibility to be out there to address things.”
Chamberlin said he spoke with Deputy Director Tim Martin and confirmed that the school was able to handle its first half-day without much chaos in the parking lot.
“We were out there the other day at the ribbon cutting,” Board Member David McCormick said. “I know it wasn’t fully complete at the time, but it’s a beautiful school.”
The board also approved a $55,000 payment for the replacement of the roof on the old Park View Elementary Building.
