The Friends of Cookeville and Putnam County Animals are hosting an event to provide affordable treatments and screenings for pets in the community.
The events are called H.E.A.R.T.S which stands for Helping Every Animal Receive Treatments and Services. The event will consist of treatments such as vaccines and lab work. President of the organization Sarah Hawlik said they are hosting the event as they saw a need for affordable pet care in the community.
“We want to make these things accessible to everybody and every animal,” Hawlik said. “So by offering vaccines on a walk-in basis at a lower cost, we want to improve the health of all of our community animals.”
Hawlik said that almost everything offered at the events will be priced between $15 and $25. Hawlik said lack of treatment and care for pets can lead to poor quality of life and shorten life expectancy.
“Whenever we have viruses and things like that,” Hawlik said. “These viruses run through animals just like they do humans. They are very transmittable through air, saliva, and anything like that. We want to keep our whole community well.”
Hawlik said this is a great opportunity for pet owners to get a furry friend the treatment they need especially if money is tight.
“One of the very expensive things about having pets are those pet visits,” Hawlik said. “We want to encourage everybody to go to their vet regularly. Anytime there is anything suspicious keep on your regular annual or bi-annual schedule with your vet, but if something financially prevents you from doing that we want to be able to provide some minimal care for your pet.”
The H.E.A.R.T.S event will be at Major Mike Shipley Spayed and Neutered Clinic in Cookeville on July 22nd and August 10th from 8 AM – 12 PM. Hawlik said that people outside of Putnam County are encouraged to come.
