Purple Paint Law In Effect

The purple paint law may help property owners prevent trespassing this year.

The state general assembly passed the law last spring and it went into effect July 1.

Basically, property owners post one “no trespassing” sign visibly on their property. Then, trees and other property markings can be made with purple paint. Proponents say it’s worked in other states. When hunters see the purple paint, they know not to hunt there.

The paint may be any shade of purple or brand of paint. Markings must be at least 1 inch wide and 8 inches tall. Trees should be marked in the “strike zone” from knee to chest height, so the markings can be seen.
