The deadline for Putnam County residents to pay 2017 property taxes is February 28th at 4:00 p.m.
Putnam County Trustee Freddie Nelson said if taxes aren’t paid, penalty and interest will kick in March 1st at rate of 1.5-percent per month.
“We’ve collected a little bit over $29 million and we still have about $13 million to collect for this year,” Nelson said.
Nelson said property owners can pay in person at the trustees office at 300 East Spring Street. Payments can also be made online at tennesseetrustee.com. The trustees office does have a drop off box for payments that are made after hours.
“I just try to let people know before that deadline just as a reminder,” Nelson said. “I don’t like to see people pay interest if theyt don’t have to.”
