Boat season is coming to a close for the year, but how do you do prepare your boat for the winter months?
Plateau Marine Owner Bill Shepherd said that many people forget the general maintenance required for proper winterization.
“When you don’t do that routine maintenance,” Shepherd said. “If you have seal problems or water in your lower units that can freeze and expand and bust your board units and can break blocks if it’s improperly serviced.”
Shepherd said that key aspects of winterization include treating fuel, changing oil, fogging the engine, and using a rust inhibitor. He said most qualified dealers are able to assist owners in prepping their boats properly before the next boating season.
Shepherd said that proper preparedness will allow for the most ease when taking the boat out when the next season comes around.
“It’s ideal to have it serviced,” Shepherd said. “We provide that kind of service and we just make sure that you don’t have any issues for the spring.”
Popular Mechanics said improper boat storage can be one of the costliest mistakes owners make.
