Program For Families In Need Come To Sparta For First Time

Mother To Mother is coming to Sparta for the first time on Thursday.

Community Partner Liaison Rachel Brown said the group loads up its bus, giving away vital items for infants and children for free. Brown said often first-time mothers in need are left feeling alone, but Mother to Mother is there for them.

“We even have some moms who come to our events and then once they’re able to get more established in their new role and get on their feet and they come back to us,” Brown said. “They donate items or come volunteer, so it’s really neat to see how that works.”

Brown said that one in three families have to decide between putting a diaper on their baby or putting food on the table. The event will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the White County High School Career Technical Education Center.

She said families should get there early and bring their own bag to take home free items.

“We’ll be providing diapers, wipes, clothing, baby gear, toys, books and more,” Brown said. “We even have hygiene items and formula, really anything that infants and children need.”

Brown said that Mother To Mother provides free items for children aged 0-10. She said that Cookeville’s Stephens Center will be in Sparta providing educational items and information about programs for first time and expecting mothers.
