Primary Voter Turnout Down Across Region

Voter turnout across the Upper Cumberland this Super Tuesday generally light.

In Putnam County, officials called the turnout slow, with people saying they were already sure of who was going to win the Presidential Primaries. As of late afternoon, larger turnouts because of smaller early voting numbers had not materialized.

White County Elections called the turnout steady, close to what was expected. One official called it “solid.” In Overton County, turnout reported good, especially considering the weather. With uncontested races, officials said they expected the numbers to be down.

Cumberland County Election officials said the turnout had been better than expected, with Fairfield Glade seeing heavier traffic. Tuesday’s turnout comparative to previous primary seasons.

Clay County turnout about the same as most primary years, with Hermitage Springs seeing more turnout than Celina’s precinct.

Election officials estimated interest across the region would not match the Super Tuesday numbers from four years ago.
