Crest Lawn Funeral Home Owner David Sweetland has purchased Presley Funeral Home.
Sweetland owns multiple funeral homes across Tennessee. Sweetland said the previous owner, Carriage Services, contacted him with a price he could not refuse.
“We are extremely excited to be able to expand our abilities to serve the people of Putnam County and in Cookeville,” Sweetland said. “With this acquisition as well, it also enables all the families that have placed their trust and continue to place their trust in Presley funeral Home.”
Sweetland said the purchase included the building, real estate and vehicles. Carriage services laid off all Presley Funeral Home employees before the purchase. Sweetland said employees from his other funeral services will fill the gaps, but welcomes the employees who were laid off to reach out.
“We are utilizing staff from some of our other locations and increasing their opportunities,” Sweetland said. “We are always looking for licensed directors and embalmers. So, if anyone in the area is looking, we would love to talk to them.”
The building is currently being prepared to host services again but is still accepting business. Sweetland said for now, Presley Funeral Home will operate through Crest Lawn until state licensing is complete.
“We never stopped taking calls,” Sweetland said. “We are still available 24/7. Right now, we are processing a lot of things through Crest Lawn. The phone number is still there. We are there all day cleaning up and organizing.”
The transaction from Carriage Services to Sweetland went through on August 14th. Bryant Presley and his family sold the the funeral home to Carriage Services in 2018.
