Presley Drops Lawsuit Against Clay, Celina And EMS Leaders

Cumberland River Hospital Owner Johnny Presley has dropped his lawsuit against Celina, Clay County and EMS leaders at the time of the facility’s closure.

Attorney Jimmy White reported the development to the Celina Board of Alderman Tuesday night. Mayor Luke Collins said Presley plans to reconsider selling the facility.

“I think he is working towards getting that thing, so he can sell it,” Collins said. “He knows that really makes his property a lot more marketable. I’ve been in communication with the owner Johnny Presley.”

Collins said the facility could possibly be eligible for $3 million in federal funding through a new law passed this year. The emergency rural healthcare grants would allow the facility to reopen as an emergency room.

Collins said the city or Presley have not applied for the funding yet.

In other business, a new grocery store could be coming to Celina. The Board of Aldermen approved the sale of three quarters of an acre to Dollar General to construct a Dollar General Market. The proposed location faces Highway 52 where the old UCHRA building was once located beside city hall.

The contractor over the development said the group is “95 percent” sure it will be a market location. The project is expected to be completed this year. The Board sold the property for $125,000.
