Power Outages Reported Across Upper Cumberland

Thousands are without power across the Upper Cumberland after storms swept through the area Friday night into Saturday.

Cumberland County EMA Director Rick Williams reported over 2,000 people are without power Saturday morning.

Overton-Pickett 911 Director Chris Masiongale said fallen trees and outages were reported across both counties, but added the outages are minimal at this time.

Masiongale reported Clay County is still without its 911 dispatch after a possible lightning strike effected its service. Putnam and Overton Counties sent mobile dispatch units to help the situation Friday evening.

Jackson County Fire Department also reported numerous fallen trees and power outages across the county.

Putnam County EMA Director Tyler Smith said power is restored to a majority of Cookeville residents as of 5:30 a.m. Saturday. He said the Cookeville Electric Department reports only 100 people are without power and that it may take some time for their power to be restored due to the extensive storm damage.

Smith said Upper Cumberland Electric reported several power outages due to fallen trees, but added they didn’t know how many customers were without power.
