Damaged underground lines caused power issues late Wednesday and into Thursday along State Street and South Willow Avenue in Cookeville.
That according to Electric Department Director, Tony Peek. He said crews are still working in the area to fix the problem.
“We haven’t been able to identify [the issue] yet because it is underground and we’re trying our best to get the power back on as quickly as possible,” Peek said. “Then we’ll do an investigation as to what went wrong with that underground cable.”
Peek said the only residents currently experiencing the outage are those in the Upper Cumberland Christian Homes on State Street. Peek added Kohl’s and the Verizon cell tower were also effected by the outage.
“I would assume lightning over the years and age of the cable is probably the culprit,” Peek said, “but we’ll know more once we’re able to pull that out of the conduits and do a better investigation.”
Peek said power should be restored Thursday morning as crews continue to make repairs to the underground line.
