Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said Tuesday night’s special called meeting will be one of the tougher decisions that this new commission will have to face.
The commission will vote on a $16.5 million bond to build the 5-8 grade portion of the Park View school. Porter said even the previous commission contemplated the decision before new members joined.
“They are trying to figure out do they want to build the extra part of the school now?” Porter said. “Do they want to wait and see if prices come down? That’s the question they have before them. From the discussions the other night, I think you have commissioners on both sides right now.”
The bond will not initially bring a tax increase to residents. The proposal delays the interest and principal payments until more money in the debt services budget becomes available.
Porter said future capital projects, bringing the new jail addition online and the unknowns of the economy all factors that commissioners should consider. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.
