Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said county officials continue to monitor and make contingency plans as the nation deals with COVID-19.
“The safety and well-being of all our employees and citizens is our number one priority,” Porter said. “I encourage you not to panic and remain calm as we work through this illness, like we have all other challenges in the past.”
Porter said he expects the community to deal with the coronavirus threat in the same way it has dealt with the tornado aftermath.
Testing policy nationwide continues to be focused on those most at-risk for the virus. Porter said the community should continue to follow the rules set forth by health officials: if you are sick, do not go to work; wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds at a time; and avoid touching your face.
“As humans our biggest fear is the unknown, and we just don’t know what is going to happen from day to day,” Porter said. “We all need to be patient, but we also have to be flexible and ready to change.”
No cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the Upper Cumberland, as of Tuesday’s report from the Tennessee Department of Health.
