Police Chief Gives Helpful Holiday Tips Against Package Thievery

A common crime during the holiday season is stolen packages from residents’ doorsteps.

Fairfield Glade Police Chief Mike Williams gives a few tips to prevent your packages from being stolen.

“I’d suggest requiring a signature, that way the package is hand delivered to someone, but if you work and you can’t do that the best thing to do is maybe have it delivered to your work if your company allows that or have it delivered to a friend or neighbor. That certainly greatly reduces your chances of losing your package to thievery.”

In the event your package is stolen, check to see if there are any security cameras from your neighbor or install them at your own residence.

“Unfortunately there’s not a whole lot that can be done unless you have insurance on the package or your credit card insures the package, some credit cards will do that so it’s best to check with the vendor and then check with your credit card company to see if you can get that package replaced.”

Williams adds you can rent mailboxes from the post office as an added safety measure.
