Pody Narrowly Defeats Carfi In Special Election Tuesday

Republican Mark Pody narrowly defeated Democrat Mary Alice Carfi in last night’s 17th Senatorial District Special Election.

Pody received 5,990 votes while Carfi received 5,682 votes.

“We didn’t accomplish the results that we wanted, but we were very proud of the race that we ran and feel like we laid a very strong base for 2018,” Carfi Campaign Manager Ameilia Hipps said. “It was a very close race when you only lose by 308 votes. That was a clear message that was sent.”

Carfi carried DeKalb, Clay and Smith counties and Pody carried Wilson, Cannon and Macon counties. Carfi has not yet decided if she will run again in 2018.
