There’s a GOP race for Sen. Mae Beavers’ former senate seat.
Current state Rep. Mark Pody has joined the Republican primary. Steve Wilson, a Wilson County Republican, turned in his petition to run last week.
The qualifying deadline is noon on September 28.
At this point, no Democrats have entered the race.
The primary will be November 7, with the general election December 19.
Beavers announced last month she would resign from the Senate seat she’s held since 2002 to focus on her campaign for governor. The 17th district covers Clay, Macon, Smith, Wilson, Cannon and DeKalb counties.
