Celina’s Pleasant Grove Recreation Area has reopened after a multi-year renovation.
Park Ranger Sondra Carmen as a flood control project, Dale Hollow Lake rises and falls. She said that fluctuation along with waves from water traffic caused erosion at the boat ramp which was repaired.
Carmen said parking rennovations included removing and leveling areas of the old asphalt.
“The asphalt was starting to slough or cave in,” Carmen said. “So in certain places we actually had a drop-off of up to a foot. Which was causing it to be quite detrimental to low profile vehicles which would get hung up.”
Carmen said the improvements are ready for a return of last year’s 1.2 million visitors with fresh paving and an improved boat ramp. Carmen said currently the recreation area had mostly fishermen visiting but as it gets warmer there will be more recreational usage.
“Once it get’s warmer and there’s more and more people out I think they’re going to come out and find Pleasant Grove has really improved,” Carmen said. “And they’re going to enjoy the improvements there.”
