Play Tennessee has selected Putnam County as a Beta participant in a new app that connects sport tournaments to appropriate venues.
Putnam County Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director Shan Stout said through the application, tournaments can match with the county based on available facilities.
“When they were scouting out a place in West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee, they just chose us because, we are a great college town and we have great facilities,” Stout said.
Stout said the app has its own Putnam County tab for organizers to explore. Stout said tournament directors can also enter in the event’s information into the app to potentially match with a venue.
“We can’t wait for it to actually go really live,” Stout said. “When that happens, there is no telling what we can do. It is just a really good tool that has never been out there before. I got to talk to the developer last week and he is very excited and has built our Cookeville page to be beautiful. So, we look very well represented.”
Stout said coaches and tournament directors nationwide have access to the Beta app. Stout said the opportunity would connect the Visitor’s Bureau with sporting events that maybe were not available before.
“More than ever we are very attractive to tournament sports right now, because our hotels are much more affordable than the big cities like Nashville or Knoxville,” Stout said. “Also, the infrastructure. While getting around, you don’t have all of the traffic.”
Play Tennessee is a non-profit organization that partners with communities to boost tourism through sporting opportunities. Stout said the Visitor’s Bureau has an active partnership with the group.
