Planning Commission Approves New Retailer Coming To Baxter’s Highway 70

A new Dollar Tree proposed for Baxter’s Highway 70 received preliminary Planning Commission approval Thursday night, pending a Public Works review.

Construction set to begin on the 10,000 square foot facility soon. It will be located off Oliver Way, the new housing subdivision being built near Gainesboro Grade. The store will not have entrances off Highway 70.

After a ground breaking in the coming weeks, the facility should open in late 2023 or early 2024 according to Baxter officials.

Additional development is likely in the same area near the Highway 70/Highway 56 intersection.

The council also approved employee raises to go into effect as of Thursday night. The raises were part of the new fiscal year budget. The board also approved the surplus of several police vehicles. The money will go toward paying off leases.
