Pioneer Days celebrating Livingston and Overton County culture begins Friday.
Committee member Paula Stover said the celebration Friday runs 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 9pm.
“There’ll be music, hog calling contest, livestock calling contest, and a magic show, clogging, historical dress competition,” Stover said.
Stover said there will be demonstrations of heritage crafts including carving, quilting, spinning and weaving.
She said Sons of the Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans will be there in their period costumes and tents with all kinds of historical items for show and tell.
“Across from the museum there will be helicopter rides,” Stover said.”And that was so busy last year, just constant.”
Stover said there would be a kids zone in the West Main Street Parking Lot.
“There’s a bouncy house and other fun things,” Stover said. “And they can enter the historical dress competition and they’ve got a kids’ livestock calling contest too.”
Stover said another event for kids is the magic show which is on the main stage.
“There’s a tent set up in front of the stage so you don’t have to sit in the hot sun,” Stover said.
Stover said there will be food vendors and craft vendors all around the square,” Stover said. “The square will just be covered up with tents.”
She said there will be a Native American artifacts display.
“These people are really knowledgeable,” Stover said. “It’s fabulous and they always have a big turnout for that.”
