The Piney Volunteer Fire Department will host a Fish Fry and Auction Fundraiser this Friday starting at 5 p.m.
Public Information Officer Tiwanna Bricker said that the fire department will have a dinner including fish or chicken, potatoes, coleslaw, and hush puppies. She said that there will be an auction following dinner.
“We usually have plenty of baked goods, things like cookies, candies, cakes, stuff like that,” Bricker said. “We also always have people donate maybe some homemade items. I know we have a quilt this time. Pretty much anything can show up. We’ve even had live animals like puppies.”
Bricker said that the funds will go towards maintaining the operations of the department.
“Funding makes up about 65 to 70 percent of our budget, fundraising does, so it’s a huge part and we couldn’t make it without our generous supporters,” Bricker said. “Right now we’re just to survive. Our call volume has about tripled this year from last year.”
Bricker said that funds will especially help cover fuel costs with the increase in calls. She said that this way, they can serve the community even better.
“You’re supporting a great cause, you’re supporting your local fire department to be able to run calls not just in Piney community but the surrounding area,” Bricker said. “You’re also going to get some pretty good food for a pretty decent price.”
The dinner and auction will be held at Station #1 on Old Highway 111. Tickets cost $10.
