The Piney Community will soon have access to the new Piney Convenience Center after the facility passed a state inspection last Friday.
Van Buren County Mayor David Sullivan said the center has one more state inspection to pass. Sullivan said however the county will likely open the center before the last inspection is completed.
“We can actually go ahead and open and they can do this one later,” Sullivan said. “It’s not mandatory to have beforehand. With that aspect there we just got to get signs and personnel employed.”
The county is currently taking applications to hire a part-time employee for the convenience center. Sullivan said the convenience center will be a great addition to the county.
“Hopefully by the start of the year but I don’t like to give a date,” Sullivan said. “I don’t like to give a date because if you give a date then people look for it, so we just want to make sure we have everything ready before we open.”
Sullivan said the process of getting to the point of opening the Piney Convenience Center has been nothing short of scary, to say the least.
“It’s been a nightmare,” Sullivan said. “There would be too many things to bring up there.”
Sullivan said he wants each community within the county to have the ability to access basic needs such as this.
