Pickett County Commission will move forward with a feasibility study for the Bill Dance Signature Lakes project.
County Executive Stephen Bilbrey said the county received just one bid after having to rebid the project. He said that is because the work is very specialized and requires certain qualifications to even be considered.
“Once this study is completed it will actually be ready to go and let out for bid,” Bilbrey said.”Once we get funding and there is some available through state and federal avenues, to get this project completed.”
Bilbrey said the study needs to be completed before they can start that process. He said the study is all-encompassing and will include surveys, the creation of permits, and solidified plans for the Obey River site.
Bilbrey said once the county had budgeted $106,000 for the study to be completed. He said they estimate a timeline of nine to 12 months to complete the study because it is so in-depth.
“Tourism is our number one industry so the more folks that we can bring into our community, it’s going to help every business,” Bilbrey said.
Bilbrey said that the county is moving in the right direction when it comes to increasing its tourism industry. Bilbrey said the goal is to make tourism a 12-month industry, rather than just seasonal.
