Pickett County’s K-8 and High School will receive new, handsfree water fountains and bottle fillers.
The Board of Education approved a $21,000 bid Monday. Director of Schools Diane Elder said the purchase is a part of the district’s COVID spending plan of federal funds.
“I recommend the board accept their bid, and let us move on from this,” Elder said. “Because this is the second time we have asked for bids on this and the only bid we have received.”
Elder said the purchase includes nine water fountain stations, two single water coolers with a filler and two single coolers handsfree. Elder said installation was not a part of the price.
“We knew we would have to allow some for the installation,” Elder said. “At the K-8, it probably won’t be that big of a deal, but at the high school, it bothers me a little bit with those old pipes.”
Elder said the fountains for the K-8 school could be installed in-house, but an outside group would be needed at the high school. In the bid, Williams Whole Sale gave a 45-day lead time for the equipment to arrive.
