Pickett Gets Grant For Byrdstown Facelift

Pickett County residents will see some changes in downtown Byrdstown thanks to a state grant and some local matches.

Pickett County Executive Richard Daniel said the state Asset Enhancement Grant will bring $50,000 to give Byrdstown a facelift. A local bank is matching that and offering zero-interest loans to business owners.

The county got the grant, but they’re using it to beautify the town.

“We discussed this grant at a Chamber of Commerce meeting and the consensus of the group was use it for the downtown revitalization, which would impact tourism,” Daniel said.

The grant and loans will be available to help businesses improve the way their buildings look, Daniel said.

The grant was offered through the state to Pickett and 22 other counties considered distressed.
