Pickett Commission Negotiating TDS Disposal Contract

The Pickett County Commission is trying to reach a fee agreement with TDS Disposal.

Under their 10 year contract, TDS transfers county’s trash to its landfill and can negotiate trash pick up costs. Executive Carrie Gardner said the common ground is about $40 per ton.

“I think they will be happy with that,” Gardner said. “He was wanting a little more than that, and of course, we negotiated down to that and he thought he could live with that.”

Gardner said the commission’s main concern is TDS requesting a fee increase yearly. Gardner said the county’s lawyer is currently working with TDS to prevent this. Currently, the cost per ton is about $36.

“It is just mostly to haul the household waste off and transport it to his landfill,” Gardner said. “He helps us with building debris. He also takes it. We try to try to work pretty close and hand and hand with each other.”

If the commission approves the $40 fee, the landfill committee could charge up to $40 to use the county’s landfill. A contract, if completed, will be presented to the commission in September’s meeting.
