Pickett Co. Sheriff’s Office To Hire New Deputies

The Pickett County Sheriff’s Office will be hiring two new deputies in the near future.

The county commission approved the hires Monday night. County Executive Richard Daniel said the additional manpower will help with prisoner transports to other counties.

“The transportation of prisoners to other counties often leaves the department strained to provide law enforcement services for the Pickett County residents,” Daniel said. “These two new positions will help reduce the overtime and allow the sheriff’s department to better serve the people of Pickett County.”

The Pickett County Sheriff’s Office is currently under fire watch by the state fire marshals office. That means the county jail can only hold five prisoners.

Daniel said the additional deputies will cost the county about $58,000
