The Pickett County Commission passed their fiscal year budget this week.
The budget totals about $4.5 million and the tax rate remains unchanged at $1.87. County Executive Richard Daniel said for the second year in a row the county has passed the budget before the start of the new fiscal year.
“We are proud of that because it enables us to start July 1st with a new budget and not a continuing budget,” Daniel said. “All of our departments will know exactly what their funds are and we won’t have to worry about a continuing budget and what that can cause.”
Daniel said the budget includes funding for some big projects including renovations to the county community center and closing down the county landfill.
