Pickett Applies For Housing Grant To Assist Low-Income Families

Pickett County applying for $500,000 in grant funding to help residents in need of home repairs.

County Executive Stephen Bilbrey said the state shares the funds to help with housing needs for low-income families.

“They may have a house that is beyond repair, and they may be eligible for that house to be torn down and a new house built,” Bilbrey said. “Hopefully, we’ll have some that need maybe a roof, windows or heating and cooling system.”

Bilbrey said if awarded, the county could help about five home owners. Bilbrey said residents must go through an application process in order to take advantage of the funds.

“There’s no match that Pickett County has to come up with,” Bilbrey said. “I know Byrdstown is going through this grant now and they were able to build or renovate a few houses in town. The state puts the money out to help with housing needs.”

The grant application is through the Tennessee Housing Development Agency.
