Pickett 13-Year-Old Named A Winner In Bass Pro Shops Fishing Contest

A 13-year-old in Pickett County has won big in the Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Happy Fishin’ contest.

Rex Reagan said that with the help of his family, he decided to enter the contest with a video explaining his love of fishing. He said that the win came as a complete surprise.

“My dad got a call and he handed me the phone and he said ‘Hello my name is Fred,’ and he asked me ‘Is your fishing better than your grades, or your grades better than your fishing?’ And I said ‘Probably my fishing.’ And he said, ‘Well my name is Johnny Morris and you’ve just won a boat.’ And I was really, really excited.”

Reagan is one of ten grand prize winners. His prizes include $3,500, a Johnny Morris rod and reel, a Bass Pro fishing gear package, and his very own Bass Tracker Boat.

Reagan said that he’s been fishing since the age of three. He said that his favorite part of fishing is the excitement of a fish-on.

“I’m going to keep practicing my skills, keep trying to learn, and someday I hope to be these pros on TV,” Reagan said. “That’s what I’ve wanted ever since I was little. I’ve wanted to be a pro on TV and I’ve always wanted to be the best.”
