A consultant has withdrawn permit applications for a proposed rock crushing operation in Monterey.
TDEC officials said Legacy Mining Company withdrew permits on Wednesday for all five quarries along Henry Cemetery Road. A letter from the company said the property owner no longer wishes to pursue mining activities.
TDEC planned to have a public meeting for the proposed project Thursday evening. TDEC Regional Director of External Affairs Tara Wohlgemuth said that meeting will continue as scheduled because the agency received such late notice about changes with the permits.
“There is no longer a need for a public meeting,” Wohlgemuth said. “However, because we understand that word of the meeting’s cancellation may not have reached all who intended to attend, a local representative from TDEC’s Division of Air Pollution Control and I will be present to answer any questions at the Monterey Community Center..”
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. inside the Monterey Community Center.
