PCSS Working On New Fencing For Jere Whitson And Cornerstone

Putnam County School System set to purchase new fencing for Jere Whitson Elementary and Cornerstone Elementary.

Attendance and Enrollment Supervisor Chris Pierce said it will purchase chain link fences at both schools. He said the need was identified by SROs and Principals at the schools.

“At Cornerstone, it will completely fence in and separate the playground from the back parking lot,” Pierce said. “And at Jere Whitson it will complete the fence for the back playground, even in between the playground and the greenhouse.”

Pierce said they are looking at approximately $13,000 for both projects. He said the money will come from the state’s annual funding to enhance school safety.

Pierce said they have requested the company to take care of the projects but the weather will play a big factor. He said the company is ready to move and get the projects done as quickly as possible.

“What we’re trying to do here is to make sure we have completed things that are there,” Pierce said. “The one at Cornerstone, it used to be installed but was removed when that building was repurposed from a middle school to an elementary school and it was never put back up (…) And at Jere Whitson, they requested that portion of the fence to serve as a barrier to any unauthorized personnel from being able to get to the playground.”
